Everything you need to know about Thanksgiving 2 (2024)

Thanksgiving 2 will be slicing into cinemas next year after the first movie ended up with the best reviews of Eli Roth's career.

Roth announced the sequel news on Instagram in late November 2023, shortly after Thanksgiving's release in cinemas.

"Going back for seconds, Thanksgiving 2 is a go... We want to out-do ourselves, make it better than the first one," he revealed in a video, adding that they were going to take a year "to really get the script right".

It's why we won't be getting it until late 2025, but now that Thanksgiving is on Netflix (in the US), what better time to look forward to the sequel?

Thanksgiving 2 potential release date: When is Thanksgiving 2 released?

While we know it's coming in 2025, Thanksgiving 2 does not yet have a confirmed release date as of February 2024.

Roth noted that it would be "probably around Thanksgiving" next year in his announcement video, so it's possible that the release date in the US would be Friday, November 21, a week before Thanksgiving (which takes place on November 27, 2025).

The first movie was released the week before Thanksgiving, so it would make sense. It could also be a new release on Thanksgiving weekend, but either way, don't expect to see it earlier than November 2025.

Thanksgiving 2 cast: Who's coming back for Thanksgiving 2?

We don't yet know who will be back for Thanksgiving 2, but assuming it continues the story of the first movie, we can expect to see the following survivors back:

• Nell Verlaque as Jessica
• Addison Rae as Gaby
• Jalen Thomas Brooks as Bobby
• Milo Manheim as Ryan
• Gabriel Davenport as Scuba

Talking to GamesRadar+ in January, Rick Hoffman confirmed that he will likely be back as Thomas Wright, Jessica's father who is responsible for the Black Friday riot at his RightMart store which led to the killing spree.

"Based on what I'm told, I'm involved – I don't want to give anything away, but based on what I'm told by the director, it's gonna be an interesting experience for sure," he teased.

Verlaque also revealed that she'll be back in the sequel, which suggests it will be a direct continuation rather than a standalone slasher sequel.

We don't yet know whether Patrick Dempsey will be back as Sheriff Eric Newton, revealed to be the killer at the end of Thanksgiving. The Sheriff was caught in a massive explosion, but they never found the body...

Thanksgiving 2 plot: What will Thanksgiving 2 be about?

If it is a continuation of the first movie, Thanksgiving 2 will likely see John Carver come back to torment Jessica and her friends again for that Black Friday riot.

Whether it's the same killer or somebody else taking up the revenge scheme, a la Scream, Nell Verlaque told GamesRadar+ that Eli Roth wants to "flesh out the characters a lot" in the sequel.

"These are traumatic events that happen to these people. And I think the reason the first one worked so well is [because] the relationships between everyone were very strong and you understood all of that," she added.

Beyond whether or not the Sheriff did perish in that explosion, there's no other plot points left dangling from the first movie, so we'll have to wait and see what other bloody treats Roth serves up.

Thanksgiving 2 trailer: Any Thanksgiving 2 footage yet?

Filming has yet to start on Thanksgiving 2, so we'll be waiting a while for new footage. Maybe there will be a teaser around Thanksgiving 2024 as a holiday treat.
