Ingredients

  • 3 cups sliced Granny Smith apples 339 grams, from 4 apples (¼-inch thick slices)
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar 150 grams
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour 8 grams
  • ¼ teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon 3 grams

For the Topping

  • ¾ cup old fashioned oats 75 grams
  • ¾ cup all-purpose flour 90 grams
  • ¾ cup brown sugar 160 grams
  • ¼ teaspoon baking soda
  • ¼ teaspoon baking powder 1 gram
  • ½ cup unsalted butter 113 grams, melted (1 stick)
  • ½ cup chopped pecans 57 grams

Equipment

  • Kitchen Scale (optional)

  • 8×8 Baking Pan

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F. Spray an 8×8-inch baking pan with nonstick spray. Set aside.

  • In a large bowl, use a spatula to fold together the apples, sugar, flour, salt, and cinnamon. Pour the apples into the prepared pan.

    3 cups sliced Granny Smith apples, ¾ cup granulated sugar, 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour, ¼ teaspoon kosher salt, 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

  • Make the topping: In a large bowl, using a spatula, fold the topping ingredients until large crumbles are formed. Spread the topping mixture over the apples.

    ¾ cup old fashioned oats, ¾ cup all-purpose flour, ¾ cup brown sugar, ¼ teaspoon baking soda, ¼ teaspoon baking powder, ½ cup unsalted butter, ½ cup chopped pecans

  • Bake for 35-40 minutes, checking at around 25 minutes. The crumble is done when the top is a golden brown color and the apples are soft.

Notes

  • If you do not have Granny Smith apples, the best alternatives to use are Cortland apples.
  • This recipe can be doubled in a 9×13-inch baking pan.

    3/4 cup of sugar for the apples is really excessive. Is that a typo/error? Even if you have the biggest sweet tooth, 3-4 tablespoons will go a long long way.

    3/4 cup brown sugar for the topping can be reduced to half.
    These were the changes I made, hope it helps!
